Last week, after dealing with my flooded apartment building, I took off for Louisiana for the holiday. Was a nice time. Didn't see too much of the bad damage. We where too far to the west of the really bad stuff. What was weird to see was how the damage to the trees got worse and worse as we drove further south. About the time we got to Hattiesburg, MS we started seeing trees snapped off along the side of the road. There where a few places that looked like tornados had touched down. Places where it looked like they might have been clear cutting all the trees but no reason to.
The closer we got to Slidell, La along I-59 the more snapped trees we saw. We could see how the Hurricane weakened. Once we got to the I-12 interchange in Slidell we noticed that most of the rooftops where covered with blue tarps. We saw a McDonald's sign that was stripped of all the plastic parts and the arches where bent on top. That was one hell of a wind to do all that.
As we went west only-12 towards I-10 the damages got less and less. It was pretty surreal to see all that.
So every Thanksgiving I always say that the reason people get tired after Thanksgiving dinner is because of a chemical in turkey called tryptophan. It is a precursor to Serotonin, the chemical that makes you sleepy. Well an article at Snopes.com proved me wrong. It seems that a lot of foods have tryptophan in them and the amount that is in turkey is only like 350mg in 4 ounces of turkey which is not enough to make you sleepy. The supplement dose for insomnia is like 1000 to 2000 mg. That would be almost a pound to 2 pounds of turkey. It is the carbohydrate overload on you digestive system that causes you to be sleepy (the rolls and stuffing probably). Oh well. So much for me sounding like I know what I'm talking about.
I hope everyone who reads this had a wonderful holiday, weather you celebrate it or not. Nothing like hanging out with friends and family no matter what the occasion is.

Last night round 11:30 I get a knock on my door. I always get a little leary when there is a knock at my door that late so I got up slowly to sneak near my door to see who it was. When I did I noticed why they might have been there. There was about 4 inches of water in my hallway to my door.
Now in my apartment complex the hallway to the door has a closet for a washer and dryer. I guess my washer hose popped. I could hear it running from behind the washer. So I turned off the water hose and it stopped.
We went done to the apartment below mine. Same situation 4 inches of water but they had their lights on and water was running through the light fixtures. So we shut off all the breakers. The people in the third apartment below mine where not there. I live on a a third floor. I assume they got it worse then we did.
So last night I was up till 4 AM with the floor cleaning people and my floor is still not dry. Kinda sucks this happened today since I leaving for Louisiana tomorrow for thanksgiving.
28-24 Vandy. Oh my god. First win vs. Tennesse since 1982.
There gonna be some property destroyed in Nashville tonight.

It's Friday again. Boy do I have a busy weekend and coming week. Tonight is the season opener for Vanderbilt men's basketball season. They are playing Jacksonville State tonight and Furman on Sunday. This years team may be better than last years. The Southeast Conference lost a lot of players to the NBA last year.
Tomorrow I am going to a friend house to deep fry a turkey. I may try dropping a whole chicken in there too. I also may try some breaded veggies. Should be fun and good. I may blog about it as I am doing it.
Next week I will be heading to Louisiana for thanksgiving. I will post from there all week.

The Judicial Branch is supposed to be non partisan and non political. Look What Judge Samuel Alito wrote in a paper recently found at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library:
- "I am a lifelong registered Republican and have [contributed to] Republican candidates and conservative causes, including the National Republican Congressional Committee, the National Conservative Political Action Committee  .. I am a member of the Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy and a regular participant at its luncheon meetings and a member of the Concerned Alumni of Princeton University, a conservative alumni group."
- It has been an honor and source of personal satisfaction for me to serve in the office of the Solicitor General during President Reagan's administration and to help to advance legal positions in which I personally believe very strongly. I am particularly proud of my contributions in recent cases in which the government has argued in the Supreme Court  that the Constitution does not protect a right to an abortion."
- "I am and am and always have been a conservative and an adherent to the same philosophical views that I believe are central to this administration."
- "In college, I developed a deep interest in constitutional law, motivated in large part by disagreement with the Warren Court decisions, particularly in the areas of criminal procedure, the Establishment Clause, and reapportionment."
I really hope the Democrats take a good hard look at this and fight. We do not need people on the court that are this far one way or the other.
Last night the storms came. It was pretty rainy and windy but I haven't noticed any damager near my apartment complex here in Antioch. I shot some video but it was nothing spectacular
We lucked out, some places did not.
Here are some links to early reports of what happened:
From WKRN Channel 2
From WKRN's Weather Blog
Newschannel 5
I would assume that we will have more links as the sun comes up and people can survey the damage. I'll post if I see them.
Weather is saying upper level rotation near Antioch and La Vergn .. It really raining outside... Really windy .. Power still on

I am watching the local News 2 WKRN weather coverage of what's heading this way. I hearing reports of Lots of damage in Clarksville and the National Guard being deployed in western Kentucky.
I took this picture before the sunlight went away.
I have a video camera that a friend of mine let me borrow I may try to shoot some video and use my skills I learned at the Video 101 class a few weeks ago.
I will update as things progress.
This Photo was taken inside the men's room of the Sofitel Hotel in Queensland, NZ. Brings a whole new dimension to that Graffiti Advertising we normally see about the Urinal.

I was listening to NPR on Friday and heard some commentary by Teller of Penn and Teller. He usually the quiet one of the 2.
Here is a link to his commentary on an encounter with a Dolphin during the filming of there special that aired Sunday called, Penn and Teller: Off the Deep End.
Oh yea if you haven't caught it yet they have a show on Showtime called Penn and Teller's Bullshit. They go around debunking stuff. Pretty Funny stuff yet also informative.

Ok so I haven't seen this site yet since I'm not at home. But I just saw this on CNN.
Dude are you serious. Dude it can't even be passed from human to human yet.
And speaking of that, it kind of curious that people are buying that drug Tamiflu in record number for a virus that has yet to mutate to be passed from human to human. Yet people don't believe in evolution. I am so baffled.

Yea!!! Another Friday and the restart of the not so world famous Friday Beer Blogging.
So I have been slacking in my blogging as of late but I will fix that. Right now I'm still working on migrating my blog from Blogger to the newest version of Movable Type and it is proving to be a lot harder that expected.
This weekend I am going to go see the Nashville Symphony do the Lord of the Rings music written by Howard Shore. Also that Saturday night local band Kim's Fable is playing at 12 and Porter. I think I will try to stop by after the symphony.
Sunday I am getting interviewed by my roommate whose doing a video project. He is going to ask about the blogging experience and he has given me permission to put it on here. So keep a look out for that in the coming weeks.
Ok back to my Winter Wheat at Boscos.

I want to see the chicken that laid that egg. This was part of the outdoor art exhibit Sculpture by the Sea exhibition in Sidney Australia. This sculpture was done by artist Jeremy Parnell who says people frying themselves on the beach was is inspiration.

I wonder if the potato chip lobby had something to to with this.
The people of Denver voted to noncriminalize the possession of marijuana. 54 percent of the votes passed a law to allow anyone over the age of 21 to possess up to an ounce of marijuana. An ounce!
Mason Tvert, campaign organizer for SAFER, or Safer Alternatives For Enjoyable
Recreation ... argued that legalizing marijuana would reduce consumption of
alcohol, which he said leads to higher rates of car accidents, domestic and
street violence and crime.
See that my point. Alcohol is a far more dangerous drug. Just look at the amount of alcohol related deaths and crimes there are every year and compare it to the number of marijuana related deaths and crimes, which I'm pretty sure is close to zero, and you will see that alcohol is far more dangerous. Yet Alcohol is available everywhere.
