Is the Future here yet??

Maybe....

After the world didn't fall apart when the year 2000 happened, my friend called me up that next morning.

Me (post drinking morning voice): Hello
My Friend: The Future sucks.
Me: Do what? What are you talking about?
My Friend: I want my flying car and my jet pack. I should be in space right now.
Me: Dude?? Are you still Drunk??

The rest of the conversation was about how we have fallen short of all of our childhood expectations of the year 2000.

Well it looks like we may be here, finally.

Scientists at Duke have cloaked, or hid from sight, a metal cylinder by using heat to bend the UV light waves making it undectectable to UV sensors. Similar to how the heat from the road makes the background look all distorted.

Also Scientist have also teleported an atom. By using a concept called Quantum Entanglement, or causing atoms to become entangled and keep that at a distance. So as I understand it and simplified, the scientist took 3 atoms (we will call them atom A, B, and C). The allowed Atom A to become "entangled" with atom C then Atom B. A light bean was passed through all 3 atoms and the Quantum information, or qubit, are then "teleported" through atom B to atom C where atom C becomes atom A with the other atoms (A and B) are destroyed.

What types of applications do both of these recent discoveries have? Well who knows until they are perfected. Cloaking definitely has a military use. The Atom teleportation will probably be used to make super high speed "quantum computers".

So, the Future is upon is. and I leave you with this quote to ponder by Niels Bohr, "Anyone who is not shocked by quantum theory has not understood it."

A look at Grinhouse

The trailer (????)from the upcoming film by Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino's called Grindhouse. I think this was shown at Comic Con this year. Here from Spike TV:

Look for it in 2007.

How do you lose a game with 400 total offensive yard

Well Vanderbilt did it in there 17-10 loss of SEC West cellar dweller Ole Miss, well former cellar dweller now. Vandy had 400 yards total offense to Ole Miss' 179. Vandy had 271 yards passing to their 71 yards.

How do you have that many yards and not score at least 2 touchdowns and maybe even a couple of fieldgoals. It comes down to turnovers. Vandy had 4 lost Fumbles and 1 Interceptions. Turnovers will kill you and Vanderbilt learned that this weekend.

Next week they face #16 Georgia "between the hedges". Looks like the Lincoln Financial Game that week.

Vanderbilt's schedule looks grim for the rest of the season. With Georgia (a loss), South Carolina (probable loss) Duke (who knows they are giving top teams some hard times), Florida (loss), Kentucky (need to win but probably won't) and Tennessee (going to be a blow out for UT, Revenge). Ole Miss was a must win.

And how about Arkansas upset over Former #2 Auburn at Auburn. AP poll had Florida #2 now but that's arguable. Arkansas is now #17 which should look favorable to Vanderbilt since they we gave Arkansas a hard time when they played them.
